Suwon Recruits Members for Military Airport Relocation Civic Movement Headquarters
Suwon City announced on the 10th that it is recruiting members for the provisional "Suwon Military Airport Relocation Civic Movement Headquarters" to support the relocation of the Air Force airfield.
Recruitment is open to Suwon residents interested in the military airport relocation. Those wishing to participate can submit applications from the 12th to the 30th at City Hall, district offices, community centers, or through the city's internet homepage.
The civic movement headquarters will engage in various activities including gathering citizen opinions and conducting public relations campaigns to support the military airport relocation.
A city official stated, "The military airport relocation is a large-scale project that requires coordinating many stakeholders' interests and will take considerable time to implement. Smooth project implementation is impossible without the interest and support of Suwon citizens, so we hope many residents will participate."
Meanwhile, the city decided to relocate the Air Force airfield currently located in the heart of the city to another region and submitted a relocation proposal to the Ministry of National Defense in March.
The city plans to develop the 5.25 million square meter airfield site into a "Smart Polis" consisting of a runway park, advanced research complex, and medical park, with development profits used to cover the cost of constructing the new airport.
