Suwon City announced on the 5th that it is pursuing the modernization of environmental treatment facilities, including relocating night-soil treatment facilities underground with advanced equipment and installing deodorizers at sewage treatment facilities to remove foul odors.

According to the city, for the first-phase night-soil treatment facility in Gosaek-dong, which has been in operation for more than 30 years, a treatment facility with a total floor area of 1,938㎡ capable of processing 500 tons per day will be newly built underground at a project cost of 12.4 billion won, and the existing open-air treatment facility will be demolished.

At the sewage treatment plant of the Environmental Works Office, a total of 13 high-capacity deodorizers—5 at the first treatment plant and 8 at the second treatment plant—are being installed at a project cost of 9.98 billion won.

Meanwhile, the Suwon City Environmental Works Office, located on a 380,000㎡ site along the Hwangguji Stream at 263 Taean-ro, Hwaseong City, treats 460,000 tons of household sewage per day at its two treatment plants, the first and the second, as well as 500 tons of night soil that has undergone first-phase treatment at the Gosaek-dong night-soil treatment facility.
