Suwon Station Area to Become Smart City Where Robots Patrol, Deliver, and Manage Parking

A smart city based on physical artificial intelligence (AI) with four hub functions—transportation, citizen convenience, safety and disaster response, and inclusive education—will be developed in the Paldal-gu area, including Suwon Station, Hwaseo-dong, and Godeung-dong, which correspond to the old downtown district.
On the 27th, Suwon City held a launch report meeting for the 'Suwon Hub-Type Smart City Development Project' at the City Hall Conference Room, and shared the business promotion directions and detailed implementation plans for building smart city services.
Mayor Lee Jae-jun stated, "We must prioritize the convenience of citizens who will use the hub-type smart city services," and added, "I hope the results of this demonstration city development project will be systematically applied to other projects in Suwon and can be expanded nationwide."
Suwon City will establish four hub functions based on physical artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the Suwon Station, Hwaseo-dong, and Godeung-dong areas: ▲transportation hub ▲citizen convenience hub ▲safety and disaster response hub ▲inclusive education hub.
The city plans to build a smart mobility system through car-sharing and parking robots, and enhance citizen convenience based on robotics through a citizen empathy center and robot delivery service for traditional markets.
Additionally, the city will strengthen safety and disaster response systems through patrol robots and a disaster response platform, and foster an inclusive education environment through wearable physical AI healthcare and a physical AI startup support center.
Suwon City was selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Hub-Type Smart City Development Project 2026' public contest and will receive up to 1.6 billion won in government funding over three years. The 'Hub-Type Smart City Development Project' is an initiative to create comprehensive demonstration cities that can be expanded nationwide.
Eight organizations are participating in Suwon City's hub-type smart city development project: Suwon Urban Development Foundation, Hyundai Motor Co., Ltd., Kia Co., Ltd., Korea Electric Power KDDN Co., Ltd., CL Mobility Co., Ltd., Gaon Robotics Co., Ltd., Colosseum Corporation Co., Ltd., and UK C&P; Co., Ltd.
