70 Traffic Intersections in Suwon Now Display Signal Countdown Time on Navigation Apps

With traffic signal countdown time displayed on navigation apps, drivers are expected to experience less tedious waiting and a reduction in speeding and tailgating.
Suwon Special City (Mayor Lee Jae-jun) announced that it has constructed a system providing real-time traffic signal information to drivers via navigation apps at 70 additional intersections throughout Suwon.
The system began trial service from April last year at 20 intersections in the Gwanggyo area, and as of October this year has expanded service to 70 intersections on major roads including Gwonseon-ro, Gyeongsu-daero, Hyowon-ro, and Paldal-ro.
The system transmits traffic signal information in real-time to the Road Traffic Authority, which collects the signal data and provides it to drivers through private navigation apps including T-map, Naver Map, and Kakao Map.
Drivers can check real-time traffic signal countdown information at intersections via navigation, allowing them to prevent speeding and tailgating.
Suwon City promoted this initiative as part of the 'Suwon Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Construction Project,' signing a business agreement with the Korea Road Traffic Authority and private navigation companies in October 2024.
A Suwon City official stated, "By constructing the real-time traffic signal information system, drivers can be aware of signal waiting time, which is expected to improve traffic flow."
