Seoul Metro Line 7 Train Malfunction Causes 1 Hour 44 Minute Delay on Upbound Line Before Normalization
Around 12:23 p.m. on the 1st, a train bound for Jangam malfunctioned at Boramae Station on Seoul Metro Line 7, causing a 1 hour 44 minute delay on upbound service. Operations were normalized at 2:07 p.m. that day.
According to Seoul Metro, the cause of the malfunction was identified as an issue with the emergency brake system failing to disengage. The company evacuated all passengers at Boramae Station and then moved the train through a rescue coupling operation, connecting the malfunctioning train with a following train to tow it.
The accident caused delays across the entire upbound section heading toward Jangam, while the downbound line toward Onsu and Seoknam operated normally. Since Line 7 passes through Gyeonggi Province sections including the route from Jangam Station in Uijeongbu to Chatchwiul Station in Bucheon to Sangdong Station, passengers using the Gyeonggi sections also experienced inconvenience.
The company plans to move the malfunctioning train to the Dobong Vehicle Depot to investigate the exact cause. A company official stated, "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to subway users."
