Icheon City Promotes Intensive Safety Inspections for 2025 'Republic of Korea Large-Scale Safety Transformation'

[Suwon Ilbo=Eom In-yong] Icheon City is promoting intensive safety inspections for 2025 'Republic of Korea Large-Scale Safety Transformation' over 61 days from the 14th of last month through June 13th to identify and eliminate risk factors in our daily lives.

The intensive safety inspections are conducted by central government ministries, local governments, public institutions, private experts, and general citizens to identify and eliminate risk factors across society at an early stage through inspections of safety-vulnerable facilities (fire-prone facilities, hazardous chemical handling facilities, etc.) and across all living and safety sectors.

The main inspection targets in Icheon City are 61 sites including sectors with high public interest and facilities deemed to have high risk.

To this end, a focused safety inspection task force was organized with Vice Mayor Eom Jin-seop as the head, and safety inspections of facilities are being conducted jointly with the Korea Industrial Safety Association's industrial safety consulting for improving workers' working environments and private experts in the fields of construction, fire protection, and electricity. For effective inspections, rigorous intensive safety inspections are being promoted through follow-up measures and enhanced corrective actions based on first-round inspection results.

In particular, the city has requested that construction companies provide special support and management to prevent workplace accidents among workers at small and medium-sized contractor companies, which have a relatively high proportion of casualties, and has requested continuous maintenance and management of stormwater treatment facilities to prevent disasters during rainy seasons.

Vice Mayor Eom Jin-seop said, "We ask citizens to directly report safety violations and conduct voluntary safety inspections through the Safety Report website or mobile app for all risk factors across society that threaten the safety of our families and neighbors."
