Suji-gu, Yongin City to Install 106 Stream Access Control Gates by Year-End
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park No-hun] Suji-gu in Yongin Special Municipality will install control gates at 106 access points to eight streams in the district by year-end to prevent safety accidents around streams during heavy downpours.
According to Suji-gu on the 29th, the eight streams including Tancheon, Seongbok Stream, and Jeongpyeong Stream have a total of 165 access points that lead to walking trails.
Among these, automatic control gates have already been installed at 25 locations including 98-12, Seongbok-dong (Seongbok Stream) and 539-1, Jukjeon-dong (Tancheon), while manual control gates have been installed at 30 locations including 341, Seongbok-dong (Seongbok Stream) and 1109, Pungdeok-cheon-dong (Jeongpyeong Stream).
However, the remaining 110 locations without control gates require managers to visit the site in person during heavy rain and temporarily block access with safety tape, resulting in poor responsiveness and limited blocking effectiveness.
Accordingly, the district will invest a total of 200 million won to install 6 automatic control gates and 100 manual control gates at 106 stream access points without gates by December.
Specifically, automatic control gates will be installed at 6 locations including Seongbok Stream (728-1, Seongbok-dong, near Seongbok 2 Bridge) and Jeongpyeong Stream (1022, Pungdeok-cheon-dong, Suji-gu, near Jeongpyeong Elementary School), which are adjacent to schools and have high foot traffic.
Automatic control gates normally remain open but operate by remotely lowering the gates from the district's Construction and Road Division Disaster Management Integrated Situation Room when weather alerts such as heavy rain warnings are issued.
Manual control gates will be installed at 100 locations including Seongbok Stream near Jukjeon Station (1293, Jukjeon-dong) and Jeongpyeong Stream near Suji Library (1088, Pungdeok-cheon-dong).
Manual control gates are operated by hand.
During heavy downpours, safety tape and guidance notices are attached to alert residents and raise awareness.
A district official stated, "We will continue to secure additional budgets in the future to expand installation of remotely controllable automatic control gates while consistently maintaining existing facilities."
