Suwon Implements 'Childcare Support Work System' Linking Flexible Work Hours and Special Leave Starting from the 4th
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Suwon Special Metropolitan City is working to spread an atmosphere where pregnant civil servants and civil servants raising young children can balance work and childcare.
To this end, the city announced that it will introduce a 'Childcare Support Work System' that links flexible work hours and special leave to establish a childbirth and care-friendly organizational culture in a flexible work environment, implementing it starting from the 4th.
For this purpose, pregnant civil servants will be able to work from home once a week through a 'remote work system,' which will begin a 6-month pilot operation starting from the 4th.
The Childcare Support Work System expands the operation of flexible work hours to create a workplace atmosphere where work and childcare can be balanced, and provides incentives to civil servants who cover duties for others.
The start time for flexible work hours (previously morning only) will be expanded to afternoon. By linking flexible work hours with special leave (maternity protection time and childcare time), civil servants who are pregnant or raising children aged 8 or younger can work from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. or from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Maternity protection time allows pregnant female civil servants to use 2 hours per day, while childcare time allows civil servants with children aged 8 or younger to use 2 hours per day within a 36-month period.
Incentives will be provided to civil servants who cover the duties of those using childcare-related special leave. When accumulated duty coverage hours reach 100 hours, one day of commendation leave will be granted, and starting from the second half of next year, personnel points will be awarded for 30 or more days of duty coverage.
The once-a-week remote work system for pregnant civil servants will be piloted for 6 months starting from the 4th, after which the city plans to review whether to expand the program within a scope that does not hinder the provision of administrative services.
A city official stated, "We will create an atmosphere where pregnant civil servants and civil servants raising young children can balance work and childcare by utilizing flexible work hours and special leave," adding, "We will establish a childbirth and care-friendly organizational culture by creating a flexible work environment."
