Guri City Holds 'Regular Press Briefing' for First Week of November

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Eom In-yong] Guri City is increasing benefits for national veterans and spouses of deceased war veterans, and recruiting a total of 3,172 participants for the '2025 Senior Job Program' to support seniors in leading an active and healthy retirement life.

Won Duk-jae, Director of Welfare and Culture, held a 'Regular Press Briefing for the First Week of November' on the 7th at the Comprehensive Situation Room on the third floor of the City Hall main building, and explained the city's major issues including these matters.

The main topics covered on that day include ▲Improvement of benefits for national merit workers ▲Recruitment of participants for the 2025 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project ▲Implementation of child abuse prevention campaign ▲Acceleration of the 'Gyeonggi-type Science High School' initiative with Guri Namyangju Office of Education ▲Provision of opportunity income for Guri City athletes in 2024.

First, the city will increase benefits for national merit workers and spouses of deceased war veterans, and newly establish a 'War Veteran Honor Allowance' for Korean War veterans. The benefits are scheduled to be provided starting in January of next year.

The city will increase the monthly 'Veteran Honor Benefit' from the existing 200,000 won to 300,000 won, and raise the 'Welfare Benefit for Spouses of Deceased War Veterans' from 100,000 won to 150,000 won. Additionally, the city will newly establish the 'War Veteran Honor Allowance' for Korean War veterans and provide 100,000 won per month.

In addition, the city will recruit '2025 Senior Job Program Participants' this month to support seniors in leading an active and healthy retirement life.

This project consists of a public activity type for low-income elderly households, a social service type utilizing seniors' social experience and capabilities, and a market-type business.

The city plans to recruit a total of 3,172 senior job participants, an increase of approximately 140 from this year. Application can be made at administrative welfare centers in eight districts of Guri City, Guri Senior Club, Guri Silver Manpower Bank, and Guri Comprehensive Welfare Center.

Implementation of a child abuse prevention campaign was also mentioned. On the 19th, which marks Child Abuse Prevention Day, the city will conduct a 'Child Abuse Prevention Campaign' in cooperation with the Guri City Child Protection Specialist Agency (Director Kim Woo-seok).

This campaign will take place around Guri Plaza, and will be attended by the city, Guri City Child Protection Specialist Agency, Guri Police Station, Guri Child Care Support Center, and Gyeonggi Province Child Care Guri Center and other related institutions.

The campaign will feature various activities including ▲Placard promotional activities ▲Child abuse prevention education ▲Memorial tree creation ▲Awareness sticker placement.

Meanwhile, on the 7th, the city held an 'Agreement Ceremony for the Recruitment and Operation of Guri Science High School (tentative name)' with the Guri Namyangju Office of Education, Gyeonggi Province (Superintendent Seo Eun-gyeong) at the Great Conference Room on the fourth floor of the Women's Happiness Center.

At the agreement ceremony, both institutions agreed to mutually share information and data for the successful recruitment and operation of Guri Science High School (tentative name), and to establish cooperation systems in various fields including the establishment of school operation plans and support.

The city gathered public opinion on recruiting a science high school at the meeting of the Guri City Education Development Committee, and conducted online and offline signature campaigns from the 23rd of last month to November 5th.

Finally, the city announced that it will accept applications for Guri City athlete opportunity income from October 21st to November 29th for six weeks.

This project provides opportunity income for athletes' social value creation activities, laying a foundation for Guri City athletes to engage in activities more stably and contribute to the development of sports in Guri City.

Eligible recipients as of October 2nd are active athletes, coaches, referees, and athlete managers aged 19 and above who maintain residency registration in Guri City and whose recognized personal income is equal to or below 120% of the standard median income (267,410,000 won per month for one person), and 1.5 million won is expected to be provided once per year.

Applications can be submitted online through the 'Gyeonggi Civil Service 24' website or in person by the applicant or their representative at the administrative welfare center by submitting an application form.

Baek Gyeong-hyun, Mayor of Guri City, stated, "Improvement of treatment for national merit workers, senior job projects, and child abuse prevention campaigns are important policies that Guri City is actively promoting to improve residents' quality of life," and added, "Going forward, Guri City will continue to actively pursue various projects to provide a better environment."
