[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Um In-yong] Guri City will increase allowances for national veterans and spouses of deceased Korean War veterans, and recruit 3,172 "2025 Senior Job Participants" to support energetic and healthy retirement for elderly residents.
Won Duk-jae, Director of the City's Welfare and Culture Bureau, held a "Regular Press Briefing in the First Week of November" on the 7th at the Comprehensive Situation Room on the 3rd floor of City Hall's main building and explained major city issues including these matters.
The main topics explained that day included ▲Increase in allowances to improve treatment of national veterans ▲Recruitment of participants for the 2025 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project ▲Child abuse prevention campaign initiative ▲Acceleration of "Gyeonggi-type Science High School" promotion with Guri Namyangju Office of Education ▲2024 Guri City Athletes' Opportunity Income Payment.
First, the city will increase allowances for national veterans and spouses of deceased Korean War veterans, and establish a new "Korean War Veteran Heroes Allowance" for Korean War veterans. The allowances are scheduled to be paid starting in January next year.
The city will increase the monthly "Veterans Honor Allowance" from 200,000 won to 300,000 won, and will also increase the "Welfare Allowance for Spouses of Deceased Korean War Veterans" from 100,000 won to 150,000 won. Additionally, the city will establish a "Korean War Veteran Heroes Allowance" for Korean War veterans and pay 100,000 won monthly.
Meanwhile, the city will recruit "2025 Senior Job Program Participants" this month to support energetic and healthy retirement for elderly residents.
This project consists of public activity programs for low-income elderly households, social service programs utilizing elderly residents' social experience and capabilities, and market-type businesses.
The city plans to recruit 3,172 senior job participants, an increase of approximately 140 from this year. Applications will be accepted at the 8 administrative welfare centers in each dong, the Guri Senior Club, Guri Silver Human Resource Bank, and the Guri Comprehensive Welfare Center.
The city also mentioned the promotion of a child abuse prevention campaign. On the 19th, in conjunction with Child Abuse Prevention Day, the city will implement a "Child Abuse Prevention Campaign" in cooperation with the Guri Child Protection Specialized Agency (Director Kim Woo-seok).
This campaign will be held around Guri Plaza, with participation from the city, Guri Child Protection Specialized Agency, Guri Police Station, Guri Comprehensive Childcare Support Center, Gyeonggi Province Childcare Center Guri, and other related organizations.
The campaign will feature various activities including ▲Picket promotion ▲Child abuse prevention education ▲Memorial tree production ▲Awareness improvement sticker activities.
Meanwhile, on the 7th, the city held a "Cooperation Agreement Ceremony for the Recruitment and Operation of (Tentative Name) Guri Science High School" at the Gyeonggi-do Guri Namyangju Office of Education (Superintendent Seo Eun-kyung) in the large conference room on the 4th floor of the Women's Happiness Center.
At the cooperation ceremony, the two organizations agreed to mutually share data and information for the successful recruitment and operation of (Tentative Name) Guri Science High School, and to establish a cooperation system in various fields including the establishment of school development plans and support.
The city gathered citizen opinions on science high school recruitment at a Guri City Education Development Committee meeting and conducted online and offline signature campaigns from October 23rd to November 5th.
Finally, the city announced that it will accept applications for Guri City Athletes' Opportunity Income from October 21st to November 29th over 6 weeks.
This project provides opportunity income for athletes' social value creation activities, establishes a more stable foundation for Guri City athletes to conduct their activities, and supports them to contribute to the development of sports in Guri City.
Eligible recipients are active athletes, coaches, referees, and athlete managers aged 19 and above with household registration in Guri City as of October 2nd, whose personal income recognition falls below 120% of the standard median income (2.674 million won per month for a single person), and 1.5 million won will be provided annually once.
Applications can be made by filing online through the "Gyeonggi Civil Affairs 24" website or by visiting an administrative welfare center in person or through a representative and submitting an application form.
Baek Gyeong-hyun, Mayor of Guri City, stated: "Improving the treatment of national veterans, senior job programs, and child abuse prevention campaigns are important policies that Guri City is actively promoting to improve residents' quality of life," and added, "Going forward, Guri City will actively pursue various projects to provide a better environment."
