Kang Sung-cheon Takes Office as 15th President of Gyeonggi Research Institute; Oh Hoo-seok Appointed 8th President of Gyeonggi Lifelong Education Promotion Institute

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kim Gab-dong] Kang Sung-cheon, former president of the Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Institute, took office as the 15th president of the Gyeonggi Research Institute, and Oh Hoo-seok, former administrative vice governor of Gyeonggi Province, took office as the 8th president of the Gyeonggi Lifelong Education Promotion Institute on the 1st.

Newly appointed President Kang Sung-cheon, born in 1964, is an economics expert who graduated from Seoul National University's Department of Economics and completed his master's and doctoral degrees in economics at Indiana University in the United States. He has held key positions in the economic field, including the Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Policy Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, vice minister of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and president of the Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Institute.

President Kang stated, "Based on my 33 years of policy experience at central government ministries and the practical experience gained as president of the Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Institute, I will contribute to the development of Gyeonggi Province's administration and the improvement of residents' quality of life," expressing his aspiration to usher in the 2.0 era of the Gyeonggi Research Institute.

To this end, President Kang emphasized, "I will do my best to enable the Gyeonggi Research Institute, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, to make a leap forward based on four core values: expertise, credibility, effectiveness, and field-oriented approach," and added, "I will endeavor to communicate and cooperate with Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly to advance together."

Newly appointed Gyeonggi Lifelong Education Promotion Institute President Oh Hoo-seok entered public service in 1995 through the 38th civil service examination and is an administration expert who has built more than 30 years of career experience, including serving as administrative vice mayor of Yongin City and in central government ministries such as Gyeonggi Province, the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Most recently, he served as administrative vice governor of Gyeonggi Province for approximately two years.

President Oh stated, "I will create Gyeonggi Province's representative lifelong education institution that actively responds to changing times," and added, "I will work to ensure that all residents of the province can receive equal learning opportunities through the institute by cooperating organically with all 31 cities and counties."

He further expressed his aspirations for organizational management, saying, "I will strengthen the expertise of internal staff and pursue horizontal communication to innovate organizational culture."

The term of the Gyeonggi Lifelong Education Promotion Institute president is two years, and President Oh received his appointment certificate from Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon on this day and commenced official duties. The term of the Gyeonggi Research Institute president is three years, and is appointed by the chairman of the board of directors of the Gyeonggi Research Institute in accordance with the Local Research Institute Act.
