Kang Sung-cheon Assumes Office as 15th President of Gyeonggi Research Institute; Oh Hoo-seok as 8th President of Gyeonggi Lifelong Education Promotion Agency

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kim Gab-dong] Kang Sung-cheon, former president of the Gyeonggi Economic Science and Technology Promotion Agency, assumed office on the 1st as the 15th president of the Gyeonggi Research Institute, while Oh Hoo-seok, former Second Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, assumed office as the 8th president of the Gyeonggi Lifelong Education Promotion Agency.

Newly appointed President Kang Sung-cheon was born in 1964 and is an economics expert who graduated from the Economics Department at Seoul National University and earned both a master's degree and Ph.D. in economics from Indiana University Graduate School in the United States. He has held major positions in the economic sector, including serving at the Policy Office of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Policy Office of the Presidential Secretariat, Vice Minister of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and president of the Gyeonggi Economic Science and Technology Promotion Agency.

President Kang stated, "Based on my 33 years of policy experience at central government ministries and the practical experience I have accumulated as president of the Gyeonggi Economic Science and Technology Promotion Agency, I will contribute to the development of Gyeonggi Province's provincial administration and improvements in the quality of life for its residents," expressing his vision to usher in a 2.0 era for the Gyeonggi Research Institute.

To this end, President Kang emphasized, "I will do my best to enable the Gyeonggi Research Institute, which marks its 30th anniversary of opening this year, to make a leap forward based on four core values: expertise, credibility, effectiveness, and field-orientation," and added, "I will make efforts to develop and advance by communicating and cooperating with Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly."

Newly appointed President Oh Hoo-seok of the Gyeonggi Lifelong Education Promotion Agency entered public service in 1995 through the 38th Civil Service Examination and is an administrative expert who has built more than 30 years of career experience, including serving as First Vice Mayor of Yongin City and holding positions at Gyeonggi Province, the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Most recently, he served as Second Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province for approximately two years.

President Oh stated, "I will create Gyeonggi Province's representative lifelong education institution that responds proactively to the changing times," and added, "Going forward, I will cooperate organically with all 31 cities and counties to ensure that all residents can receive equal learning opportunities through the Promotion Agency."

He further expressed his vision for organizational management, stating, "I will strengthen the expertise of internal staff and promote horizontal communication to innovate organizational culture."

The term of the Gyeonggi Lifelong Education Promotion Agency president is two years, and President Oh received his appointment certificate from Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon on this day and began official duties. The term of the Gyeonggi Research Institute president is three years, and the appointment is made by the chairman of the board of directors of the Gyeonggi Research Institute in accordance with the Local Research Institute Act.
