Kim Dong-yeon: "Gyeonggi Province will take responsibility for 2% of the government's 3% potential growth rate target"

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kim Gap-dong] Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon emphasized, "Gyeonggi Province, the center of the nation's economy and industry, will take responsibility for 2% of the 3% potential growth rate target set by the central government."

Governor Kim held a New Year's press conference at the Danwon Hall of Gyeonggi Provincial Government on the 2nd and stated, "We will lead South Korea's growth through the 'Three Major Future Growth Projects' of semiconductors, AI, and climate industry."

He added, "Gyeonggi Province has found a solution to the power supply problem, which was the biggest challenge for the Yongin semiconductor cluster. For the first time in South Korea, we will install power grids on roads in Yongin and Icheon to expand 3GW capacity, and achieve both budget savings and schedule acceleration." He continued, "Since the 'Semiconductor Special Act,' which Gyeonggi Province proposed legislation for, has passed through the National Assembly, we will immediately apply the support measures in the special act to the field."

Furthermore, he stated, "We will build an AI metropolitan network where industry, academia, research, and enterprises collaborate, actively support advanced manufacturing including physical AI, and will soon open five AI cluster hubs in Pangyo, Bucheon, Siheung, Hanam, and Uijeongbu. Within this year, we will also launch the 'Gyeonggi Climate Satellite 2,' establish a climate tech fund, actively nurture ventures and startups, and accelerate the construction of a climate tech cluster."

Governor Kim Dong-yeon said, "In less than a year since the Lee Jae-myung administration took office, our economy has entered a clear path of recovery and growth, and Gyeonggi Province, as the 'primary partner in state affairs,' will become the 'field commander' for the success of the 'Lee Jae-myung government.'" He emphasized, "Now, the role of local government in connecting the central government's achievements to the people's livelihoods is important. Gyeonggi Province's policy goal is, first, second, and third, for all residents to tangibly feel improved living standards. We will concentrate our policy capacity to surely reduce living costs."

Governor Kim presented the key policy directions for Gyeonggi Province this year as: △alleviating shopping basket burdens △reducing transportation cost burdens △expanding responsibility for nursing and childcare. To this end, he outlined representative policies including 'Gyeonggi Big Sale to Revive the Economy,' shopping basket price stabilization through the 'Small Business Owners Fighting Strong Card,' cost and time savings on commute routes through 'The Gyeonggi Pass' Season 2 and GTX line extensions and the second phase of metropolitan rapid transit construction, and childcare support through 'Gyeonggi Nursing SOS' and family childcare allowances.

Additionally, he emphasized that policies such as 'Ultra-low Credit Loans 2.0,' development of U.S. Forces Korea-returned areas, 'Rural Basic Income,' and 'High-amount and Habitual Delinquency Zero' will be continuously pursued.

Governor Kim Dong-yeon said, "(In the past) I visited all 31 cities and counties of Gyeonggi Province with the promise that 'things change wherever I go,' met 6,400 people at various sites of life, received over 300 civil complaints, and have resolved 70% so far." He added, "I will completely wrap up tasks resolved at the field level through implementation and take full responsibility for remaining tasks."

He concluded, "'My Life's Plus Gyeonggi'—we will accelerate even further." He emphasized, "With my initial determination, I will run forward with renewed strength so that all 14.2 million residents of Gyeonggi Province can feel improved living conditions."
