Siheung City Implements AI-Based Welfare Administration

[Suwon Ilbo=Cheon Ui-hyun] Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 30th that it has been selected as a finalist for the Ministry of Health and Welfare's "AI Policy Laboratory Demonstration Project for Welfare Administration."

From August onwards through the end of the year, Siheung City will implement a demonstration project applying generative AI across all welfare administration processes. The project involves participation from 11 cities and counties across three provinces including Gyeonggi Province, with Siheung City establishing a cooperation framework with cities including Suwon, Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, and Osan to operate demonstration models.

Key initiatives include AI welfare consultation services for the public, AI welfare information assistant services, and AI agent support systems for welfare officials. The city plans to recruit citizen participation groups to utilize generative AI for telephone consultations to understand citizens' welfare needs and crisis situations, thereby enabling early identification of households in crisis and rapid linkage to customized welfare services.

Shim Yun-sik, director of the Welfare Division of Siheung City, said, "We will implement active welfare by connecting Siheung City's welfare administration, such as the welfare safety net, with AI technology."
