Yongin City Hosts 'Yeokbuk Hamak Cultural Festival' on Yeokbuk-dong Citizens' Day

Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) held the '2026 Yeokbuk Hamak Cultural Festival' at City Hall's Sky Plaza on the 11th to commemorate Yeokbuk-dong Citizens' Day.
Mayor Lee Sang-il visited the event venue to celebrate the festival and spent time communicating with residents of Yeokbuk-dong. He also presented commendations to three residents, including Park Gil-seon, head of Yeokbuk-dong's 31st neighborhood unit, in recognition of their contributions to local development and community harmony.
Mayor Lee said, "The population of Cheoein-gu has exceeded 300,000, and the region will continue to grow, looking ahead to 500,000 residents. In Korea, a city is considered a major city when its population exceeds 500,000. As Cheoein-gu makes its leap to become a major city with a population of 500,000 on its own, I will gather wisdom and strength together with our citizens."
The mayor stated, "We began constructing an underground parking lot for Yeokbuk-dong Cultural Park last year, and when it is completed in July next year, it will provide 125 parking spaces. Additionally, two new municipal childcare facilities will be built."
The mayor said, "While Cheoein-gu has a light rail transit system, it does not yet have a subway. We will continue to coordinate with the central government on the Central Region Metropolitan Express Rail (JTX) and the Gyeonggang Line extension projects and proceed forward with them."
The event began in the morning with a jump rope competition and a residents' autonomous projects presentation. In the afternoon, following an opening ceremony, the program continued with congratulatory performances and a residents' participation happiness concert, allowing Yeokbuk-dong residents to enjoy themselves in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
