2026 National Audit Spotlight "Addressing People's Livelihoods Instead of Political Disputes"… Cross-Party Gyeonggi Lawmakers' Sharp Questioning Transforming Lives of 14 Million Residents

Bipartisan Focus on GTX, New Cities, Public Finance, and Agricultural Issues\nKim Young-jin, Moon Jeong-bok, Kang Deuk-gu (Democratic Party) and Kim Eun-hye, Kim Seon-gyo, Song Seok-jun (People Power Party) Draw Attention for Legislative Achievements\nPrecision Data Verification Produces Proactive Measures from Audited Agencies

As the 2026 National Audit enters its final comprehensive audit phase, the activities of Gyeonggi Province-based National Assembly members are drawing attention. In the audit chamber, where political disputes and factional tensions are escalating, lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties are methodically investigating major issues directly affecting the lives of 14 million Gyeonggi residents—including the expansion of metropolitan transit networks, new city infrastructure, local financial soundness, and deregulation of regional restrictions—while securing substantive commitments for policy improvements.

Rep. Kim Young-jin of the Democratic Party, representing Suwon City B, has elevated transportation infrastructure and local financial soundness issues in the central southern Gyeonggi city of Suwon to key agenda items in the audit chamber.

During National Audit proceedings in relevant standing committees, Rep. Kim examined the progress of major railway projects including the GTX-C line, Shinbundang Line extension, and new metropolitan railways in the southern Gyeonggi region, strongly urging that "as commuting inconvenience for residents in southern Gyeonggi has reached a critical level, construction delays must be resolved promptly and budgets allocated in a timely manner."

Rep. Kim Eun-hye of the People Power Party, representing Bundang-gu B, Seongnam City, similarly focused on transportation and reconstruction infrastructure issues in southern Gyeonggi. During the National Audit of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, Rep. Kim pointed out relocation measures for first-phase new city reconstruction and delays in metropolitan transit network linkage, pressing the audited agencies by stating "new city redevelopment and transportation measures directly affecting residents' daily lives must be pursued with urgency by the government and local authorities," securing commitments for proactive measures.

[Housing and Infrastructure] "Blocking Third-Phase New City Traffic Congestion" vs. "Inspecting Gyeonggi Agriculture, Livestock, and Regional Balance Issues"

Rep. Moon Jeong-bok of the Democratic Party, representing Siheung City A, meticulously examined railway network expansion in the southwestern metropolitan region, metropolitan bus service intervals, and traffic congestion from delayed move-in to third-phase new cities. As new city move-in becomes imminent, Rep. Moon provided numerical evidence of delayed implementation of metropolitan transit improvement measures, emphasizing "coordination bodies must be activated to ensure transportation networks and bus infrastructure are supplied seamlessly at the time of resident move-in."

Rep. Kim Seon-gyo of the People Power Party, representing Yeoju City and Yangpyeong County, intensively examined issues in urban-agricultural composite areas within Gyeonggi, farm support, and regulatory improvement measures through the Agricultural, Fisheries and Food Committee. Rep. Kim identified structural problems such as rising agricultural material prices and agricultural and livestock distribution issues in Gyeonggi, strongly demanding the government secure substantial support budgets and implement systemic improvements.

[Finance and Administration] "Verification of Gyeonggi's Fiscal Emergency" vs. "Urging Capital Region Deregulation"… Data-Based Policy Audit

In National Audit proceedings targeting the Gyeonggi Provincial Government and local authorities, the precise data analysis and local voices presented by incumbent lawmakers from both parties particularly stood out.

Rep. Kang Deuk-gu of the Democratic Party, representing Man'an-gu, Anyang City, objectively presented Gyeonggi Province's debt increase rates and financial indicators regarding fiscal issues, meticulously verifying the appropriateness of expenditure restructuring. Rep. Kang pointed out "fiscal management balance must be maintained to ensure that essential welfare and regional infrastructure budgets necessary for residents are not reduced."

Rep. Song Seok-jun of the People Power Party, representing Icheon City in eastern Gyeonggi, publicized development neglect issues in eastern and peripheral Gyeonggi regions hampered by dual regulations including the Capital Region Restructuring Act and military installation protection zones. Based on field survey data, Rep. Song strongly urged the government to reconsider regulations and pursue regional balanced development strategies, conveying the voices of those affected.

"Questioning Has Ended, but Results Must Come Through Comprehensive Audit and Budget Review"

The common characteristic of incumbent lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties in Gyeonggi who distinguished themselves in the 2026 National Audit is that they are receiving evaluation from the regional community for demonstrating the model of policy-oriented audits—"identifying residents' livelihood inconveniences ➔ data-based questioning ➔ drawing confirmed commitments from agency heads"—without being constrained by factional rivalry.

The National Audit extends beyond on-site questioning; the key is whether commitments from audited agencies are actually reflected in the ongoing comprehensive audit and subsequent fiscal year 2027 budget review process. All eyes of the 14 million residents are fixed on whether the ruling and opposition lawmakers who distinguished themselves in the audit chamber can build on these achievements to reap results in securing regional budgets and enacting or amending relevant legislation for next year.
