Suwon Establishes Standards for Event Venue Guidance Accessible to Elderly, Disabled, and Foreigners

Suwon Special City (Mayor Lee Jae-jun) has developed a method enabling diverse visitors—including elderly people, individuals with disabilities, children, and foreigners—to easily and accurately understand information and enjoy events and festivals at event venues.

The city's "Event Venue Guidance System for All" standard design and manual organize guidance information while preserving unique designs and characteristics by event type and establish common standards in the delivery system to make convenient use possible for elderly people and individuals with disabilities.

Information composition, expression, and arrangement standards have been established so that visitors can understand necessary information in a consistent manner and find travel routes and convenient facilities suited to their circumstances.

The manual also includes methods for creating maps that display slope grades and barrier-free movement information, braille notation and voice guidance standards using QR codes for visitors unable to use visual information, and pictograms for various facilities needed by different visitors, including adult diaper changing tables, multipurpose step stools, and children's restrooms. It also contains bilingual Korean-English standard terminology and step-by-step checklists for practical use.

In March, the Department of Culture and Arts and the Urban Design Department conducted training on the "Event Venue Guidance System for All" for event management staff. The Suwon City Urban Design Department plans to support event venue guidance sign design consultations based on the manual for requesting departments.

A Suwon City official stated, "We will collaborate with relevant departments so that the manual can be practically utilized in event preparation and operation processes" and added, "We will continue to create an event and festival environment where everyone can easily obtain information and enjoy together."
