Suwon Metropolitan City Councilman Hong Eun-cheol urged the city to officially review a plan for the Gyeonggi Southern Metropolitan Railway to pass through Suwon City Hall Station.

His position goes beyond simply requesting the addition of one station, but rather calls for the city to establish grounds for determining whether to include the route through an official process.

According to the Suwon Metropolitan City Council on the 19th, Councilman Hong (People Power Party, representing Haenggung, Ji, Uman 1·2, and Ingye-dong) made these remarks during his 5-minute free speech at the 1st Plenary Session of the 1st Session of the 405th Regular Session held that day.

Councilman Hong emphasized that for a metropolitan railway to result in actual transportation convenience, it must be connected to existing railway networks and major residential hubs.

He cited three reasons for the necessity of routing through Suwon City Hall: enhancing accessibility to administrative and business facilities, improving utilization of existing railway networks through transfers to the Suin-Bundang Line, and improving urban accessibility and promoting local economic revitalization.

He requested that the city conduct a comprehensive analysis of anticipated demand for ridership, transfer effects, technical feasibility, project costs, and economic viability.

He also called for a review of plans to establish a metropolitan transfer system that takes into account pedestrian routes for transfers between railway and bus transportation.

Councilman Hong emphasized that this proposal is not intended solely for specific areas, but aims to ensure all citizens of Suwon benefit from the metropolitan railway, and urged the city to transparently disclose the review process and results to citizens and the council.
