One thousand hand-knitted textiles sent from across the nation have come together to form a large canopy.

Gyeonggi Province installed a 15m by 15m hand-knitted canopy, created through the "Let Me Lend You Some Shade" project, at Dodamdeul Plaza in front of the Gyeonggi Province Government Building on the 19th.

This project brings together 1,000 hand-knitted textiles from citizens nationwide celebrating the first anniversary of the Gyeonggi Province Library's opening, completed as a single large canopy. It will operate as an outdoor reading zone until the 25th.

The Gyeonggi Province Library conducted knitting workshops in July and August using 871 donated balls of yarn, and 1,000 hand-knitted pieces created by knitting communities and citizens from across the nation were collected at the Gyeonggi Province Library in October.

The "Let Me Lend You Some Shade" project is the Gyeonggi Province Library's reinterpretation of a hand-knitted shade project conducted in Spain in response to climate crisis.

The project involved a total of 488 participants nationwide, including 11 libraries within the province, 20 organizations, citizen clubs, and individual participants. The yarn used in creating the textiles was donated by Nakyang Mosa, the project's collaborating company, and citizens.

Yoon Myung-hee, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Library, said, "The 1,000 pieces of shade are the hearts that each resident of Gyeonggi Province has lent to one another and a record of climate action. I hope this becomes an example showing that climate action is not about grand gestures, but something we can participate in together through activities we enjoy."
