Chuseok Food Sharing in Sumin-dong, Dongnae, Busan...Delivered to 15 Households of Elderly Living Alone
Chuseok food made together by elderly residents at a community center and children at a daycare in Sumin-dong, Dongnae-gu, Busan was delivered to 15 households of elderly living alone.
The Sumin-dong Administrative Welfare Center held the 'Chuseok Warmth Conveyed Through Jeon' event on September 22 with Forena Dongnae Senior Center and Dongnae Dream Green Daycare ahead of Chuseok. The elderly and children cooked jeon together while sharing stories about the holiday, and the food prepared that day was delivered two boxes to each of 15 households of elderly without family ties living alone. One box was prepared for the elderly residents' meals, while the other was arranged for sharing with neighbors.
Yun Sang-hyun, chairman of Forena Dongnae Senior Center who participated in the event, said, "I feel a sense of accomplishment in conveying our sincerity to neighbors in need through food made together with the children."
The joint activity between the senior center and daycare was not the first of its kind. In November 2024, approximately 60 children from the daycare and about 20 senior center members participated together in an environmental cleanup campaign to clean areas prone to uncleanliness in the Sumin-dong area. At the time, Chairman Yun expressed his intention to create a clean neighborhood with residents.
This event, in which children and elderly together made food and delivered the results to neighbors in need of care, stands out as a community sharing case combining intergenerational exchange and helping neighbors, notable for being an activity pursued in daily life through cooperation among multiple generations and institutions including the administrative welfare center, senior center, and daycare.
