Elderly Man in His 80s Donates 21.95 Million Won Earned from Coal Mine Work

Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced on the 8th that it received a donation with a touching and special story.
An elderly man in his 80s, identified as Mr. A, who resides in Cheoin-gu, visited City Hall in person despite having difficulty with mobility and donated 21.95 million won in cash.
Yongin Special City subsequently visited Mr. A's home to express its gratitude for inspiring the community through his donation and presented him with a "Shy Sharing" plaque. The "Shy Badge" is a token of appreciation created for "shy donors," referring to those who prefer not to have their donations made public.
The handwritten letter tucked between the bundles of cash Mr. A delivered rekindled the meaning of donation and conveyed deep emotion to those who saw it.
The letter contained the life story of Mr. A, the meaning of sharing, and his sincere desire to help neighbors despite his difficult circumstances.
The letter was written with poignant details of how his husband worked in a coal mine to support the family's livelihood and how he raised four children under economically modest conditions.
Mr. A said, "Although we are living with economic difficulties, since our children have grown to be upright members of society, I now wish to share with neighbors in need. I hope the donated funds will be used for lonely elderly people and children from families that need assistance," explaining the purpose of his donation.
A city official stated, "In respect of Mr. A's wishes, the donated funds will be distributed through the Gyeonggi Community Chest of Korea to help elderly people and children in need within the local community."
