Twenty members of the Citizen Governance Committee have been appointed to reflect local resident opinions in the redevelopment direction of the Siheung Jeongwang aging planned city.

On the 2nd, Gyeonggi Province held a meeting of the 'Siheung Jeongwang Aging Planned City Citizen Governance Committee' at the Siheung Start-up Center, awarded appointment certificates to the members, and exchanged views on the direction for establishing a redevelopment basic plan that reflects local conditions and resident opinions.

The Citizen Governance Committee members were selected through a recruitment process from October 14-20 targeting residents with household registration in Jeongwang-dong. This signifies the implementation of a resident-participation-based governance system.

The Citizen Governance Committee is tasked with conveying resident opinions during the aging planned city redevelopment process and facilitating communication between the administration and residents. Gyeonggi Province composed the committee with 20 local residents based on recommendations from Siheung City, and the members' terms are two years.

Gyeonggi Province plans to convey resident opinions and meeting results discussed in the Citizen Governance Committee to Siheung City, which has the authority to establish the redevelopment basic plan, and will coordinate to ensure that local resident voices are reflected in the planning process.

The Siheung Jeongwang aging planned city project, in accordance with the Special Act on Aging Planned Cities, is a key initiative to improve residential environments and reorganize urban functions. The project goes beyond simple housing improvements to encompass traffic systems, expansion of public facilities, and reflects urban characteristics combining industry and residential areas.

Lee Eun-seon, Director of Urban Development at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We will continue to communicate to ensure that citizen opinions are reflected in the Siheung Jeongwang aging planned city redevelopment basic plan," and added, "We will strengthen cooperation between the central government and local governments to do our utmost to ensure that the aging planned city redevelopment is promoted swiftly and smoothly."
