Hwaseong City Celebrates 26 Years of Friendship with China's Wujiang District

Hwaseong Special City has maintained 26 years of friendship with Wujiang District in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, which became its first overseas sister city through a sisterhood agreement established in 2009.
Hwaseong Special City (Mayor Jung Myung-geun) received a delegation from Wujiang District, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, at the central conference room of City Hall on the 5th, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to deepen friendly cooperation between the two cities and discussing collaborative plans across cultural arts, economy, industry, education, and other broad sectors.
A six-member delegation from China, led by Sun Daoxun, Secretary of the Wujiang District Committee, visited Hwaseong. This visit comes as a reciprocal exchange following Mayor Jung Myung-geun's visit to Wujiang District in November of last year.
The agreement between the two cities includes museum-to-museum collaborative exchanges, inter-company cooperation utilizing regional industrial strengths, inter-school exchange and educational cooperation, and establishment of regular communication and consultation systems.

In the cultural arts sector, the two cities will promote exhibitions and academic exchanges between museums as well as mutual visits among officials. In the economy and industry sector, they will explore ways to expand inter-company exchange and cooperation based on the industrial strengths of both cities. In education, both sides agreed to broaden mutual understanding and friendship through establishing friendly relations between schools and mutual visits of teachers and students.
On this day, Hwaseong Special City presented locally-made Maekan craft decorative items with wishes for prosperity and abundance for both cities, while Wujiang District gifted an artwork depicting two horses, symbolizing the hope to stride forward together further.
Mayor Jung Myung-geun of Hwaseong Special City stated, "Wujiang District is Hwaseong Special City's first overseas sister city and a precious partner with whom we have maintained friendship and trust for 26 years. Taking this agreement as an opportunity, we will identify collaborative projects that maximize the strengths of both cities and sustain them through substantive exchanges."
