The Gyeonggi Province Economic Science and Technology Promotion Agency (GBSA) announced on the 3rd that it will utilize generative artificial intelligence (AI) to reduce repetitive administrative tasks and allocate the time saved to business consulting and new project planning, thereby strengthening business support services.

According to GBSA's survey of employee AI usage and work efficiency conducted in September, 60% of respondents said their task completion time using AI was reduced by 30% or more compared to before.

The survey was conducted with 125 participants out of 347 employees who attended AI training in the second half of this year.

93% of respondents said they are using generative AI for work, with 51% using it daily and 82% using it three or more times per week. Notably, 28.8% of respondents said their task completion time using AI was reduced by more than half.

The time saved by AI implementation is being used to improve work quality and strengthen business support capabilities.

In a multiple-response survey asking how the saved time is being used, data verification and quality management enhancement ranked highest at 61.6%, followed by new business/policy development and planning at 28.8%, and external support work such as business consulting at 21.6%.

GBSA is not merely automating administrative tasks but transforming work methods to enable employees to move away from repetitive tasks and invest more time in business fieldwork and policy planning.

In practice, the business support department uses AI to analyze industry trends and market conditions for target companies, while the overseas expansion support department investigates country-specific market information, import-export statistics, and certification systems to assist companies in entering overseas markets.

The startup support department also utilizes AI in business plan reviews and company-specific support project identification. Employees directly verify materials organized by AI and then tailor support directions to fit individual company circumstances.

An official at GBSA stated, "By utilizing AI in our work, we have reduced our daily work time by approximately 2 hours on average," adding, "By dedicating time previously spent on repetitive tasks to field visits, consultations, and post-management of support projects, we have become more focused on business support work."

Examples are emerging of employees directly developing work systems using generative AI.

GBSA's Personnel and General Affairs Department developed a QR code-based attendance management system and a custom education enrollment system, automating repetitive administrative tasks from education registration to attendance management and certificate issuance.

Previously, education attendees had to manually record their attendance on paper rosters, which the responsible party would then reorganize. Currently, attendance information is automatically recorded and compiled simply by scanning a QR code.

Education enrollment has also been improved so that employees check schedules and remaining capacity to apply directly, with waiting list members automatically registered when vacancies occur.

GBSA's work innovation initiative began with its "paperless accounting administration" launched in 2024.

By implementing an electronic document-based work system to reduce paper document production and printing procedures, approximately 470,000 sheets of A4 paper were saved from last year through September of this year. Converted to paper purchase costs and color printing costs, this resulted in approximately 76 million won in budget savings.

Recognized for these achievements, GBSA won the Excellence Award in the "Gyeonggi Province Public Institution Excellent Policy Evaluation" last year.

Since this year, GBSA has been expanding its work innovation scope by pursuing "AI Administrative Innovation 2.0," which integrates generative AI with electronic document-centered work systems.

On the 2nd of last month, GBSA held the "2026 GBSA AI Hackathon" with participation from 42 employees across 14 teams from all departments, showcasing AI business tools developed by employees.

The 'Rabbit²' team, which won the grand prize, developed an AI-based evaluation work automation tool capable of handling everything from verification of submitted documents for business support projects to calculation of evaluation scores and performance analysis.

GBSA plans to enhance the tool's functionality, conduct field verification, and apply it to actual business support projects.

GBSA President Kim Hyeon-gon stated, "The starting point of AI administrative innovation lies in enhancing employee capabilities," adding, "Through continuous AI training, we will raise employees' work expertise, reduce repetitive tasks, and concentrate the saved time on business consulting and policy planning to expand business support services that companies in the province can experience firsthand."
