Unammed Middle School in Osan has secured the budget necessary for gymnasium expansion that will allow physical education activities even during rainy weather.

Osan City (Mayor Cho Yong-ho) announced that it will receive a total of 4.4 billion won in budget support, including 3.58 billion won in special grants from the Ministry of Education for the gymnasium expansion at Unammed Middle School.

The special grant recipients include Unammed Middle School, along with ▲classroom floor replacement at Sujeong Elementary School (250 million won) and ▲artificial turf installation project for Daeho Middle School playground (570 million won). The total amount of special grants secured for the three projects, including the gymnasium expansion at Unammed Middle School, is approximately 4.4 billion won.

Unammed Middle School has previously used a cramped multipurpose hall as an indoor physical education space, but with the new gymnasium, students will now have a dedicated space for physical education classes regardless of weather conditions.

Unammed Middle School faced the need to expand its gymnasium to ensure students could safely participate in physical education classes when outdoor activities were difficult due to fine dust, extreme heat, and rain. However, it was challenging to secure the project budget with only the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's own budget.

Accordingly, Unammed Middle School applied for the "2027 First Regional Education Pending Matter Ministry of Education Special Grant Project," and with this selection, secured the necessary funding for the gymnasium expansion. Osan City will also separately secure and support 1.1 billion won in municipal funds to ensure the project proceeds smoothly.

The city plans to continue providing administrative support as needed throughout the project implementation process through cooperation with related organizations including the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and the Hwaseong-Osan Office of Education.

Mayor Cho Yong-ho of Osan City stated, "I am grateful to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and the Hwaseong-Osan Office of Education for their efforts in securing the special grants. We will support the construction of the gymnasium so that students at Unammed Middle School can engage in physical activities in a safe and comfortable space, and we will continue to work to improve educational facilities needed by each school."
