On November 1st, marking the start of the month, the nation will experience mostly cloudy skies with autumn rain in various areas, bringing chilly weather conditions.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the rain is expected to begin in the central regions in the morning and expand to southern regions and Jeju Island in the afternoon. Most of the rain in Seoul, Incheon, northern Gyeonggi Province, and central and northern Gangwon will stop in the evening, but some areas in Chungcheong Province, southern regions, and Jeju Island may experience rain continuing into the early morning of tomorrow (November 2nd).
Expected precipitation for November 1st-2nd will vary by region. ▲Seoul, Incheon, and northern Gyeonggi Province around 1mm ▲Southern Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon Province around 5mm ▲Western Five Islands, Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong, and North Chungcheong 5-10mm ▲North Jeolla, Daegu, and North Gyeongsan 5-20mm ▲Gwangju, South Jeolla, Busan, Ulsan, and South Gyeongsan 5-40mm ▲Ulleungdo and Dokdo around 5mm ▲Jeju Island 10-60mm, with relatively heavier rain expected mainly in southern regions and Jeju Island.
Notably, in high mountain areas of Gangwon (above 1,200 meters elevation) where temperatures are low, falling rain is expected to turn into snow, swirling or accumulating gradually in some areas.
Today's daytime high temperatures nationwide will range from 10-19°C, similar to or slightly lower than the seasonal average, and with somewhat stronger winds, the wind-chill temperature will feel even more chilly.
An official from the Korea Meteorological Administration urged caution, stating, "In high mountain areas of Gangwon, rain and snow may freeze, making roads slippery in some places, so mountain road drivers and hikers should exercise particular care to prevent accidents."
■ Precautions for Weekend Mountain Climbing and Outdoor Activities
After the rain stops, temperatures will drop sharply and winds will blow, requiring particular attention to maintaining body heat during outdoor activities.
In particular, hikers heading to mountainous areas or highlands in Gangwon should be aware that fallen rain or snow may freeze, making mountain trails slippery. They should bring safety equipment such as crampons and be prepared for slipping accidents.
Additionally, strong winds are expected mainly along coasts and in mountainous areas, with high waves forecasted at sea. Fishing enthusiasts and marine leisure activity users should check weather information regularly and exercise caution to prevent accidents.
An official from the Korea Meteorological Administration urged drivers, stating, "In areas with rain, visibility will be reduced and roads may become slick, so please exercise full caution on traffic safety with reduced speed driving when traveling by car over the weekend."
