From the evening of the 27th, cold air from the northwest will surge again, and by Wednesday morning, the 28th, temperatures in Seoul and Suwon are expected to drop to 2 degrees Celsius, bringing the coldest weather of the autumn season.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, through tomorrow afternoon the entire nation will remain mostly clear with temperatures similar to normal seasonal averages and a cool feel, but from the evening cold air will surge strongly southward with temperatures dropping sharply.

In particular, the temperature drop is expected to be significant in the Seoul metropolitan area and Gyeonggi inland regions. Wednesday morning, the 28th, low temperatures in major areas are forecast as follows: ▲Seoul 2 degrees ▲Suwon 2 degrees ▲Incheon 3 degrees ▲Paju -2 degrees ▲Yeoncheon -3 degrees ▲Gapyeong -1 degree, with southern Gyeonggi around 2 degrees and northern and eastern Gyeonggi dropping below freezing. Strong cold winds will also blow, with wind chill in the Seoul metropolitan area during commute hours expected to remain mostly below freezing.

Wednesday daytime highs are forecast as follows: ▲Seoul 12 degrees ▲Suwon 13 degrees ▲Incheon 12 degrees ▲Paju 11 degrees, remaining chilly throughout the day.

This cold spell will peak Wednesday morning and then gradually recover to normal seasonal temperatures from Thursday onward, though chilly transitional season weather is expected to persist for the time being, particularly in the mornings and evenings.

[Daily Life Cold Wave Response Guide] "How to Prepare for Sudden Intense Cold"

When abrupt temperature drops and cold winds occur together, careful preparation in daily life is necessary.

• Maintain body temperature and prepare cold-weather gear (responding to wind chill)

Layering with multiple thin garments is more effective for insulation than a single thick piece of clothing. During Wednesday's commute, wind chill from strong winds will drop below freezing, so when going outside one should prepare scarves, gloves, hats, and other cold-weather accessories to cover exposed areas such as the neck and hands.

• Cardiovascular disease and transitional season health management

When temperatures drop sharply, blood vessels constrict and blood pressure may rise. Seniors and those with cardiovascular disease should refrain from outdoor exercise Wednesday morning and take care to avoid sudden exposure to cold air when going outside.

• Prevention of frost damage and freezing damage to crops during harvest season

In areas of northern Gyeonggi and Kangwon inland where below-freezing temperatures and frost are expected, measures such as placing insulation covers on harvest-season crops or conducting advance inspections of warming facilities are necessary to prevent cold damage.

• Prevent fires when using heating appliances

As this is a period when use of electric heating pads, space heaters, and other heating appliances surges due to sudden cold, one should inspect electrical cords on old heating devices, remove dust around plugs to prevent fire accidents.
