Gyeonggi Provincial Councilor Son Seong-ik officially declared his candidacy for the Democratic Party Gyeonggi Youth Committee Chair election. Councilor Son completed the registration of candidate documents at the Democratic Party Gyeonggi Provincial Headquarters on the morning of the 21st and launched his formal campaign.

In his candidacy declaration, Councilor Son said, "I worked for 15 years while engaging in labor union activities, and ran in two city council elections, experiencing both the pain of defeat and the joy of being elected, which brought me to this position." He continued, "By balancing work and politics, I deeply understand the concerns and realities of young party members preparing for the future more earnestly than anyone else."

Emphasizing this point further, Councilor Son stated, "My first party activity with the Democratic Party began in the Youth Committee," and stressed, "Just as the Youth Committee allowed me, an ordinary young office worker, to dream of becoming a politician and helped me realize that dream, I will now become a strong ladder that enables our party's youth to fully demonstrate their capabilities."

Councilor Son said, "Our party already has many talented youth in various fields including policy, economics, welfare, IT, and culture," and emphasized, "I will create a structural foundation where young members' brilliant ideas are translated into actual policies and budgets, leading to local ordinances."

As three core pledges to realize this, he proposed △promoting regular meetings with young party members from Gyeonggi Province's 31 cities and counties △establishing a 'Youth Policy Network' that shares and develops excellent policies between regions △and establishing a 'Policy Academy' to support the practical experience of young party members.

Councilor Son appealed for support, saying, "I will create a platform where young party members can directly experience how local assemblies operate, propose policies, and interact with senior politicians," and added, "I will create a Youth Committee that serves as a strong ladder, enabling prepared youth to prepare for their next path in their respective fields and continue growing."

Councilor Son Seong-ik has held various major positions within the party, including Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party Policy Committee, Member of the Youth Policy Research Institute, and Spokesperson for the National Youth Committee, as well as Vice Spokesperson of Gyeonggi Provincial Party, Head of Public Communications, Head of Education and Training, and Youth Committee Chair for Paju City (District A). He served as a Paju City Councilor in 2022 and has been serving as a Gyeonggi Provincial Councilor since 2026.
