'Hwaseong as Mars!'…Hwaseong City Ramps Up Aerospace Industry Expansion

Hwaseong Special City (Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun) is accelerating efforts to foster the aerospace industry, one of nine core pledges in the 9th popular election term.
Under the slogan "Hwaseong as Mars!," the city aims to secure new future growth engines by expanding the competitiveness of existing industries—including semiconductors, mobility, artificial intelligence (AI), communications, and advanced manufacturing—into the aerospace sector.
To this end, the city organized an aerospace industry task force in April and held five expert consultation meetings, four subcommittee meetings, and two expert task force meetings. Additionally, through visits to related companies and institutions and participation in aerospace field events, the city has reviewed the feasibility and implementation direction of Hwaseong-tailored aerospace industry development.
At an expert roundtable held on the 12th, the city examined specialization potential in the aerospace sector based on local industrial competitiveness. At a subsequent aerospace industry business leaders' roundtable held at Dongtan District Office on the 15th, the city heard on-site concerns from local companies and policy support needs, and discussed the direction for company advancement.
On November 3rd, the city will officially launch the "Hwaseong Special City Aerospace Industry Task Force" at the artificial intelligence (AI) exhibition "MARS 2026" and hold an expert forum to accelerate policy implementation.
In 2027, the city plans to pursue research projects for developing a comprehensive nurturing plan to specify Hwaseong-tailored aerospace industry specialization areas, company support and recruitment strategies, and phased implementation tasks.
Hwaseong Special City Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun said, "The aerospace industry is a future industry that will open new growth possibilities based on Hwaseong's advanced industrial capabilities," adding, "I will faithfully reflect the voices of the field in policy so that local companies can broaden their business scope and strengthen competitiveness in the aerospace sector."
