The Changdeokgung Palace Management Office of the Cultural Heritage Administration's Palace Heritage Division will hold an advanced special viewing program titled "Entering the Inner Quarters of Changdeokgung Palace: The Living Spaces of King and Queen," where visitors can tour the interiors of Huijeongdang and Daejojeon, the living spaces of the king and queen, from October 20 to 31.
This program was designed to allow visitors to directly experience the living conditions of the Joseon royal court and modern palace life by visiting the inner palace areas that had previously been restricted to public access. Visitors will tour Huijeongdang, the king's office and living space, and Daejojeon, the queen's sleeping quarters, and can examine Western-style facilities installed at the time, including a guest restroom and the barber shop in Daejojeon where Sunjong's hair was groomed, as well as calligraphic works and paintings with explanations from professional guides.
The program will be held twice daily from Tuesday to Saturday (10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.). To ensure safety and a comfortable viewing environment, participation is limited to adults 19 years of age and older, and each session is limited to no more than 24 people. The final day, October 31, will be held as an invitation-only event, with general viewing available by application through October 30.
Participation in the program is free of charge, though separate admission fees for Changdeokgung Palace buildings apply. An official from the Changdeokgung Palace Management Office stated, "We hope this will serve as an opportunity for visitors to directly experience the history, traditions, and modern changes embedded in the palace by exploring the deep inner quarters that were previously difficult to access."
