Hwaseong Demonstrates Excellence in Geological Education and Interpretation at Dinosaur Fossil Site

Hwaseong Special City (Mayor Jung Myeong-geun) won top prizes in both the interpretation competition and educational materials competition at the '2026 Geopark Festival,' hosted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and organized by the National Park Service's National Geopark Division.
The event was held from the 21st to 22nd at Donggang Systar Resort in Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, reaffirming the outstanding interpretation capabilities and educational content competitiveness of Hwaseong National Geopark.
In the interpretation competition held on the 21st, Kim Young-mi, an interpreter representing Hwaseong National Geopark, demonstrated her interpretation on the theme "Hwaseong, Embracing Dinosaurs!" and won the top prize, the Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment Award. Kim Young-mi received recognition for presenting dinosaur and fossil egg stories in an engaging question-and-answer format.
In the educational materials competition, the "Byeolbyeol Hwaseong H4" team (Seo Hae-jin, Park Si-won, Baek Mi-ae, and Park Kyung-rin, interpreters) presented a "Dinosaur Egg Fossil Formation Process Explanation Set" and won the top prize, the Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment Award.
Notably, following their top prize win in the interpretation division in 2024, this year's sweep of the educational materials division reaffirmed the excellence in geological heritage education and interpretation.
Mayor Jung Myeong-geun of Hwaseong Special City stated, "This award is a meaningful result of the efforts of interpreters who have continuously researched and prepared to promote Hwaseong's geological heritage," adding "Going forward, we will substantively operate educational and tourism programs so that citizens and visitors can easily and enjoyably experience the value of Hwaseong National Geopark."
