Educational Innovation Pioneer Regions Designated in Yeoncheon and Yangju to Close Education Gap

The Gyeonggi Province Office of Education (Superintendent An Min-seok) announced on the 3rd that it will promote region-specialized educational innovation projects tailored to the characteristics of Yeoncheon County and Yangju City, which were selected by the Ministry of Education as 'Educational Innovation Pioneer Regions.'
For this Educational Innovation Pioneer Region competition, 130 regions nationwide applied and only 43 were selected by the Ministry of Education. With two local governments in Gyeonggi Province being selected, efforts will be strengthened to close the education gap in the northern regions of Gyeonggi Province and cultivate region-customized talent.
Accordingly, the Gyeonggi Province Office of Education will launch full-scale region-specialized educational innovation projects starting next year.
Yeoncheon County will establish an educational ecosystem connecting learning, career paths, and settlement by operating a self-directed learning center for career and vocational education, operating a "child growth 15-year completion school," and creating a whole-village learning center through small-school innovation.
Yangju City will close the education gap within the region through operating joint educational curricula for small schools, strengthening university-linked career education programs, and operating a "365-day growth learning center" outside schools.
Kim Kyung-kwan, Policy Planning Director of Gyeonggi Province Office of Education, said, "Through the designation of these pioneer regions, we will close the education gap in northern Gyeonggi Province and provide concentrated support for student development."
