Author Kim Jin-ho's Water and Health Story (64) May, the Month of Family – The Perfect Gift Your Loved Ones Need
May arrives every year, but our hearts feel renewed each time.
May 5th Children's Day, May 8th Parents' Day, May 15th Teachers' Day, May 21st Couples' Day.
We deliberate on what gifts to give those we cherish, putting our hearts into our choices.
While countless gifts pour in for various commemorative occasions, why not prepare something different this year?
Giving the gift of 'good habits' for your family's healthy living.
Small changes accumulate to transform a life.
Here are three essential habits that can make your loved ones' lives shine even brighter.
Cultivating the Habit of Speaking Words of Love
Words have power.
Especially between family members, every word exchanged leaves a much deeper impact than we realize.
We assume our family members know of the love in our hearts and let it pass, but love becomes indifferent if not expressed through words.
It's okay to feel awkward. With a small dose of courage, reach out and speak first.
"I love you."
"Thank you."
"I bless you."
When the lips speak, the brain follows.
The moment you utter "I love you," your prefrontal cortex prepares to act on that love.
As we speak, we act; as we act, relationships transform.
Gift your family the language of love. A gift that helps begin this practice is also wonderful.
For example, a small desk plate that the whole family can see together or a calligraphy frame.
By placing gifts inscribed with phrases like "I love you, I thank you, I bless you" throughout the home, the habit of expressing words of love naturally develops every time you see them.
Love grows when expressed. This May, speak to your family more often.
"I love you and I bless you!"
Cultivating the Habit of Drinking Water
Health begins with the habit of proper and adequate hydration.
Humans are born with 80-90% body water content, but this decreases to 50-60% as we age.
It's important to remember that aging is essentially 'the process of the body drying out.'
When hydration is insufficient, the body enters a dehydrated state, and prolonged dehydration increases the risk of various diseases.
Conversely, drinking enough water facilitates smooth metabolism throughout the body—nutrient transport, waste elimination, and immune activation—thereby maintaining good health.
The habit of drinking water frequently and consistently is the easiest and most powerful way to protect the health of the entire family.
This May, consider gifting your loved ones with a beautiful water bottle.
Particularly for those who don't usually drink water well because it tastes plain, a somewhat special water bottle is needed.
Specifically, a mineral maker water bottle. This bottle generates magnesium alkaline ionized water, making the water soft and clean.
Even those who found water bland or unpalatable before naturally start reaching for water thanks to the refreshing quality unique to mineral water, thus gifting the habit of good health.
The convenient habit of drinking healthy water will be the most refined choice for presenting health and vitality to your loved ones on the month dedicated to family.
Cultivating the Habit of Walking Together
Walking together with family transcends mere exercise—it's the moment when heart-to-heart conversation begins.
Even just 10 minutes a day is good. Holding hands, walking shoulder to shoulder, you naturally ask about each other's day and share laughter together.
Walking not only strengthens the heart and muscles but also helps release serotonin, the hormone that brings peace to the mind.
For children, it stimulates growth plates and improves concentration; for parents, it promotes blood circulation and prevents dementia; for couples, it deepens the quality of conversation.
No special location is needed for walking.
A nearby park or an evening stroll through neighborhood streets is sufficient.
A gift that encourages walking together is also wonderful.
A comfortable pair of walking shoes or a light sun hat for strolling would be great.
"Shall we walk together today?" will naturally become a phrase that emerges in May, and those small steps will make your family's health and happiness grow even greater.
The month of family returns every year.
But this year, let's add deeper meaning to it.
Rather than expensive material gifts, gift 'living habits' that make your entire family's life healthier and richer.
The habit of expressing love, the habit of drinking water, the habit of walking together.
These three habits will add love and health to our family's life.
In May, the month of family, let's give thanks once more for the gift of family, and I sincerely bless us all to be loving, healthy, and happy.
