Yongin City Discusses Semiconductor Cooperation with Italy's ST Microelectronics

Yongin Special Mayor Lee Sang-il and a city delegation visited ST Microelectronics, a leading global power semiconductor company located on the outskirts of Milan, Italy, on the 3rd (local time) to discuss semiconductor cooperation spanning two and a half hours.
ST Microelectronics is a comprehensive semiconductor company headquartered in Switzerland. It operates 14 manufacturing facilities across 9 countries and employs approximately 49,000 people.
The mayor met with Renato Martire, group vice president (overseeing external affairs and government relations in Italy), and others, receiving explanations about ST Microelectronics' activities and vision.
The mayor stated, "Electric vehicles are rapidly replacing internal combustion engine vehicles, and with the advent of the artificial intelligence (AI) era, the importance of data centers is growing, so power semiconductors will be used in more fields. We hope that ST Microelectronics will play a greater role in Korea as well."
The mayor said, "Investments from semiconductor-related companies continue to flow into Yongin, and the semiconductor ecosystem is continuously expanding. When Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix's mega-scale projects are completed, Yongin City will form the world's largest ecosystem as a single city."
ST Microelectronics pursues the advancement of intelligent mobility and the expansion of infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) implementation through research and development, chip design, process technology, manufacturing, packaging, testing, and customer support, officials explained to the Yongin City delegation.
