Yongin and Hwaseong Unite on Semiconductor Road...Agreement Reached on New Road from Namsa to Sindong

A four-lane road approximately 3.96km long will be opened connecting Yongin's Namsa Wanjang-ri, a core hub of Gyeonggi Province's semiconductor industry, to Hwaseong's Dongtan Sindong. The total project cost of approximately 210 billion won will be borne by the two cities.
Hwaseong Special City and Yongin Special City held a project briefing session on the 19th at the Dongtan 9-dong Administrative Welfare Center and signed a "business agreement for securing interconnected transportation networks for mutual development between Hwaseong and Yongin" at the Namsa Library in Yongin City.
The signing ceremony, attended by Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin City and Mayor Jung Myung-keun of Hwaseong City, took place following the "Joint Declaration for Mutual Development of Hwaseong-Yongin Connected Transportation" jointly announced by both mayors on November 21 of last year, after narrowing positions through working-level discussions.
In particular, Hwaseong and Yongin are geographically adjacent, and with recent population inflow into Dongtan 2 New City, traffic between the two cities is steadily increasing. As the construction of a semiconductor cluster in Yongin's Namsa-eup area is accelerating, the two cities have reached this agreement to preemptively address traffic issues jointly.
The agreement includes concrete measures such as both cities agreeing to cooperate on the construction and expansion of three roads connecting Yongin's Idong and Namsa with Hwaseong's Dongtan.

The two cities also agreed on timely opening of Local Route 84, connecting Cheonri in Idong-eup, Yongin to the northern Dongtan area (Jungri) in Hwaseong, and Local Route 82, connecting Songjeon-ri in Idong-eup, Yongin through Namsa-eup to the southern Dongtan area (Jangji).
In accordance with the agreement, the two cities will jointly promote the construction of a four-lane road (including tunnels and bridges) approximately 3.96km long between Yongin's Namsa Wanjang-ri and Hwaseong's Dongtan Sindong.
Hwaseong City has conducted a preliminary feasibility study on this road since February, and in September commissioned a feasibility study to the Korea Local Administration Research Institute with Yongin City as the lead agency.
Hwaseong City expects that when the road is opened, it will not only improve transportation conditions between the two cities but also disperse regional traffic, providing some relief from the severe traffic congestion currently afflicting Local Route 23.
Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin City said, "When a road connecting Wanjang-ri in Yongin's Namsa-eup and Sindong in Hwaseong's Dongtan area opens, the traffic flow on Local Routes 82 and 84 will improve significantly, and exchanges between residents of the two cities will become more active. Yongin City will cooperate with Hwaseong City to rapidly construct the new road."

The mayors of both cities urged the reflection of the Gyeonggi South East-West Cross Line (Semiconductor Line) and Gyeonggi South Broad-Area Railroad, which both cities are jointly promoting, in the 5th National Railway Construction Plan, and resolved to jointly establish strategies going forward for expanding railroad infrastructure.
The Gyeonggi South East-West Cross Line (89.4km), called the Semiconductor Line, is expected to run east-west through South Korea's semiconductor industry ecosystem, connecting Hwaseong's Jungok Port, Dongtan, Yongin's Idong and Namsa, and Wonsam-myeon to Icheon's Bubal, providing significant benefits for the movement of people and goods.
Mayor Jung Myung-keun of Hwaseong City said, "Cooperation with Yongin City is a necessity, not an option, to solve citizens' traffic problems. We will make continuous efforts to create an environment where citizens can move conveniently through an adequate supply of transportation infrastructure."
