Gwacheon Mayor Shin Gye-yong Holds One-Person Protest at Prime Minister's Official Residence Against Relocation of Government Complex and Race Park

Gwacheon Mayor Shin Gye-yong held a one-person protest with a picket sign in front of the Prime Minister's Official Residence on the 14th.
This was to express his opposition to the relocation of the Gwacheon Government Complex and Race Park being pursued by the government without the consent of Gwacheon citizens, as well as to the unilateral housing supply policy.
On this day, Mayor Shin held a protest in front of the Prime Minister's Official Residence with a sign reading "Do not push forward the relocation of the Gwacheon Government Complex and Race Park, nor unilateral housing supply, without citizen consent."
Mayor Shin urged that when policies with significant impact on Gwacheon's future are decided, the opinions of Gwacheon City and its citizens must be reflected.
Gwacheon City previously held a press conference with citizens on September 3rd, demanding a complete withdrawal of the plan to supply 9,800 households on the grounds of the Race Park and Army Counterintelligence Command.
On September 10th, it then held a press conference opposing the relocation of the Ministry of Justice, raising concerns about weakened functions of the administrative city and urban hollowing due to successive relocations of major government agencies, and calling for a reconsideration of the Ministry of Justice relocation plan and the formation of an official consultative body between the government and Gwacheon City.
In this context, starting with the first one-person protest on October 8th marking the 100th day of the ninth elected term, Mayor Shin continues to convey to the government concerns about weakened administrative city functions and excessive housing supply, while demanding that unilateral policy implementation without citizen consent be halted.
Gwacheon Mayor Shin Gye-yong stated, "Following the announcement of large-scale housing supply exceeding the capacity of a small city, I absolutely cannot accept the government's unilateral policy of destroying city functions by relocating major government agencies without any measures. Even if it is a small city with a small population, the government must respect the voices of Gwacheon citizens and must prepare responsible measures to maintain administrative city functions and prevent urban hollowing."
