Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Embarks on 45-Day Session...First Audit and New Year Budget Review

The Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly's 395th Regular Session, addressing the first administrative audit and next year's budget since the assembly's inauguration, opened on the 3rd.
Nam Jong-seop, Speaker of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly (Democratic Party, Yongin District 3), emphasized in his opening address at the first plenary session: "The new year budget review must not merely address fiscal matters but also consider the lives of provincial citizens."
The regular session will proceed for 45 days through December 17, during which the first administrative audit since the inauguration of the 12th Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly and budget reviews for Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will be conducted.
Speaker Nam stated, "We must correct policies that have failed to fulfill their roles, and fairly evaluate the value of policies that have long supported citizens' livelihoods."
While expressing empathy with Governor Choo Mi-ae's efforts regarding Gyeonggi's fiscal conditions, he emphasized that "the local government and local assembly closest to citizens' lives must together consider people's welfare beyond the numbers."

Speaker Nam stated, "Through the experience of the recent supplementary budget, I felt the need for a forum where we can more deeply understand each other's judgment and find practical solutions together. With this in mind, I proposed the formation of a Ruling Party, Opposition, and Government Coalition Committee, and Governor Choo Mi-ae responded immediately," he explained.
Prior to the opening address, Speaker Nam paid respects to the late Fire Captain Kim Jin-seok, who died in the line of duty at a factory fire site in Bucheon's Naedong district last month, and emphasized strengthening safety at fire scenes and expanding the nation's fiscal role.
