Yongin City Invests 84.5 Billion Won in Education...Lays Foundation for Semiconductor Talent Development

Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) announced that it is investing 84.5 billion won, equivalent to 2.63% of this year's main budget, in the education sector to create a city conducive to education.
In addition to providing 58.5 billion won in "subsidies to educational institutions," the city is investing an additional 26 billion won in direct support to students such as school entrance preparation funds and school uniform costs, as well as in constructing school facilities.
As Yongin is making a leap forward as a semiconductor-centered city, it is necessary to build a foundation for the educational environment of students so that future talent capable of leading South Korea can emerge from the city.
Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin stated, "Improving school environments is something the city must do," and emphasized, "Yongin Special City will continue to invest in the education sector so that students can grow into core talents who advance on the world stage."
The 58.5 billion won allocated as subsidies to educational institutions is being used in various fields to enhance educational welfare for students through the Board of Education, Office of Education, and individual schools. Among these, the largest portion of 45.7 billion won is allocated to school meal support projects and programs providing eco-friendly quality agricultural products through school meals.

Additionally, 12.469 billion won is allocated to dream-fulfillment education support, future education cooperation district operations, middle and high school freshmen school and athletic uniform support, after-school classroom education cooperation such as survival swimming, and private kindergarten support.
Separately, the city has allocated an additional 26 billion won in budget for direct use in reducing the educational cost burden on students and in repairing aging school facilities.
As a result of Mayor Lee meeting directly with high-ranking government officials since assuming office in the 8th popularly elected term in 2022 to convince them of the need to improve school environments in the region, the city has secured a total of 146.2 billion won in national and provincial funds from 2022 to 2025.
The mayor is continuing roundtable discussions with parents this year. Roundtables with parents of elementary and middle schools in the three districts have been completed, and on November 9, a communication meeting will be held with parents of high schools in the region at the Suji-gu Office. On the 20th, a communication roundtable will be held with special education school parents, and on the 25th with kindergarten parents.
The city plans to increase the city budget allocation for school educational environment improvement projects in the 2027 main budget from this year's level by more than double to 4 billion won.
