Deposit a Plastic Bottle or Can and Earn 10 Won Per Item…Convert 2,000 Points to Cash

Suwon Special City (Mayor Lee Jae-joon) has installed recycling collection machines that award 10 won in points per item when residents deposit plastic bottles and aluminum cans.
The city on the 26th established a total of three "Smart Resource Centers"—automatic recycling collection machines—at 951 Goesaek-dong (inside Suwon Delta Plex), 657-2 Goesaek-dong (within a residential area), and 1129 Goesaek-dong (Goesaek Local Culture Exhibition Hall).
The Smart Resource Centers were installed as part of the "Carbon-Neutral Green City Development Project" to encourage residents to engage in proper waste separation and increase the collection rate of recyclables.
Collection items are transparent plastic bottles and aluminum cans. After thoroughly emptying the contents, residents insert one item at a time into the collection machine and receive 10 won in points per item. When 2,000 points or more are accumulated, they can be converted to cash via account transfer or charged to a transit card (Easyca).
Plastic bottles and aluminum cans with remaining contents or those that are severely dented or damaged cannot be recognized by the machine.
A Suwon City official stated, "We hope the Smart Resource Centers will serve as an opportunity for residents to practice resource circulation easily and conveniently in their daily lives," and added, "We encourage active participation in the proper waste separation of transparent plastic bottles and aluminum cans."
