"Safe Walking Routes are a Basic Right"...Gwangmyeong City to Protect Children's Right to Walk

Gwangmyeong City (Mayor Park Seung-won) has stepped up efforts to strengthen children's right to walk safely and with peace of mind.
The city's position is that for children to attend school safely, safe driving by operators, adherence to traffic safety rules by pedestrians, and community attention must work together in support.
The city plans to broaden public consensus on child protection and continuously expand a culture that respects and practices basic rights in daily life.
As part of this, on the 27th, the city launched a 'Children's Protection Zone Traffic Safety Campaign' on the school route to Bitgaon Elementary School to prevent traffic accidents involving children and create a safe commuting environment, reaffirming its commitment.
The campaign, prepared in accordance with the city's policy philosophy of 'Constitution-friendly Gwangmyeong,' aims to guarantee children's right to walk, which is vulnerable to traffic accident risks, and to enhance traffic safety awareness among drivers and citizens.
At the campaign, Mayor Park Seung-won of Gwangmyeong City and employees from the city's Railroad Policy Division participated to greet students heading to school and urged both children and drivers to comply with traffic safety rules.
The city plans to continue implementing children's protection zone traffic safety campaigns in cooperation with related organizations such as the Gwangmyeong Police Agency and Gwangmyeong Office of Education, while spreading a culture of traffic safety rule compliance.
Mayor Park Seung-won of Gwangmyeong City stated, "Creating an environment where children can walk with peace of mind is a basic responsibility of our society and an act of upholding citizens' dignity. The city will prioritize citizens' safety and rights and strive to build a city where children are safe."
