Spreading Household Etiquette of 'Consideration and Respect' to Schools

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's Yulgok Training Institute (Director Kim Young-hoon) is operating '2026 Family Together Etiquette Connection! Etiquette Education!' targeting elementary school students and parents in Gyeonggi Province to establish a harmonious household culture and foster understanding of traditional values and cultural pride.
This educational program targets a total of 120 participants—40 per session—and is divided by grade level: Session 1 (10th, grades 1-2), Session 2 (17th, grades 3-4), and Session 3 (31st, grades 5-6), taking into account the developmental stages of students. The program focuses on fostering proper citizenship, including the development of attitudes of consideration and respect.
In cooperation with the Paju Cultural Center, this event takes place at both the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's Yulgok Training Institute and Jaun Seowon, a historic site of Yulgok Yi I. Under the slogan 'Etiquette sprouting in the home, flowering in school,' the program was designed to ensure that etiquette learned in the home extends to community etiquette at school.
The program utilizes local resources and is structured as a participatory, experience-based program centered on traditional experiences, educational games, and recreational activities, allowing students and parents to experience traditional tea ceremony and games together, share family communication and joint experiences, and form shared understanding of etiquette across generations.
Kim Young-hoon, director of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's Yulgok Training Institute, said, "I hope that this educational program, where families learn tradition and etiquette together, will become an opportunity that spreads widely to schools and local communities."
