350,000 Red Rockfish Released in Jumun-do Waters...Fishermen Anticipate a Bountiful Harvest

Ganghwa-gun (County Governor Park Yong-chul) announced that it released 350,000 red rockfish seed stock at Jumun-do Wharf in Seodo-myeon to recover coastal fishery resources and increase fishermen's income.
Red rockfish, commonly called 'uruok,' is a representative coastal sedentary fish species that primarily inhabits waters with well-developed shelters such as reefs and rocky areas. The waters near Jumun-do have coastal environments suitable for red rockfish habitation, and significant effects from this release are expected.
At the release event held on the 8th, approximately 30 people attended, including officials from Ganghwa-gun, the County Council, Gyeonggi Northern Fish Cooperative, local fishing village heads, and students and teachers from Seodo Elementary School.
They shared an understanding of the importance of fishery resource development, and the students particularly gained hands-on experience with the value of marine ecosystems by releasing young red rockfish directly into the sea.
A total of 100 million won in project funding was invested in this release. Healthy seed stock that passed disease and genetic testing was released to promote increased fishery resources in local coastal waters and expand the foundation for fishery production.
Ganghwa-gun County Governor Park Yong-chul stated, "I hope that this red rockfish seed release will make a practical contribution to the recovery of local fishery resources and increased income for fishermen," and added, "Moving forward, we will do our utmost to cultivate abundant fishing grounds and establish a stable income base for fishermen."
