Traffic congestion has been alleviated on Gwacheon-daero 7-gil in the Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town, where severe traffic jams occurred during rush hours, with one additional lane now secured.

Gwacheon City has secured one additional lane on the existing Gwacheon-daero 7-gil through continuous consultations with the Korea Land and Housing Organization (LH) to resolve rush-hour traffic congestion on the knowledge-based industrial site.

This area had experienced traffic congestion due to concentrated vehicle traffic during rush hours. To reduce traffic inconvenience for resident companies and workers and ensure smooth vehicle flow, the city has implemented various measures including changing traffic signal cycles and painting guide lines.

The newly secured lane was developed by straightening the existing right-turn-only lane leading into the knowledge-based industrial site to add one lane.

This was initially proposed by the Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town Business Council. To proceed with the project, multiple preliminary administrative procedures were necessary, including relocation of obstacles such as transformers and manholes, utilization of private land sections, changes to the public housing district plan, and modifications to the traffic impact assessment. Gwacheon City and the Korea Land and Housing Organization continuously consulted on these matters.

As a result, through the 14th revision approval of the public housing district plan and modification of the traffic impact assessment, the additional lane was secured and road expansion construction was completed. The lane is currently in operation.

In preparation for increased vehicle inflow following the completion of the 9BL (Netmarble) site on the knowledge-based industrial site, Gwacheon City is consulting with related agencies including the Korea Land and Housing Organization on plans to utilize the sidewalk space in front of 9BL as a traffic lane and to secure additional lanes through adjustment of railroad land.

Mayor Shin Gye-yong of Gwacheon City said, "This traffic improvement represents proactive administration that actively addressed the difficulties raised by the Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town Business Council. It is the result of continuous consultations between Gwacheon City and the Korea Land and Housing Organization, as well as cooperation from resident companies in utilizing private land sections. Going forward, we will continue to listen to voices from the field and closely consult with related agencies to enhance the completion quality of the public housing district development."
