Suwon Fortress Cultural Heritage Fills School Walls with Participatory Educational Project

The Suwon Office of Education has undertaken a student-participatory educational environment improvement project titled 'Suwon Fortress, Our Pride,' in which students decorate school indoor spaces themselves.
The project involves painting and designing wall surfaces in school corridors and other indoor spaces with Suwon Fortress, the region's representative cultural heritage, as the theme, with students participating directly in the educational environment improvement initiative.
Students explore the history and architectural characteristics of Suwon Fortress and reinterpret and express the fortress walls, buildings, and natural environment through their own perspectives. Through this process, they experience history firsthand and develop the ability to express their thoughts through art and design.
Furthermore, students naturally encounter diverse career fields such as architecture, urban planning, design, cultural arts, tourism, and content creation, and it is expected that the project will serve as an educational resource for exploring the region's historical and cultural heritage as well as future career paths.
The completed space will be utilized as a 'historic and artistic space within the school,' where students encounter Suwon Fortress daily and cultivate pride in their region and community consciousness through artworks created together with their friends.
Kim Hye-ri, superintendent of the Suwon Office of Education, stated, "The very process of students drawing Suwon Fortress and transforming school spaces is living history education, art education, and career education," adding, "We will expand this initiative in next year's educational environment improvement projects so that schools can become spaces where students discover and nurture their dreams and potential."
